History of the capital city of Bangkok 06/23/2009
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand. The city gained the status of capital in 1768 after the end of the Ayutthaya regime. Before being recognized as a capital, Bangkok was small town and had a trading port and community on the bank of Chao Phraya River. The origin of the name of the country is not known, however, it is believed that the word originated from the native trees, which bear olive-like fruits. According to another theory, the word Bangkok means island. The capital has a total of 8,160,522 residents living according to the consensus of July 2007. This makes Bangkok the 22nd populous country of the world. Along with other attractions of the capital, the city is renowned for its high-class hotels. Bangkok hotels Thailand are known for their grandeur, hospitality and magnificence. The capital has a large number of tourist spots and is the hub of political, commercial and business activities. The formation of Suvarnabhumi Airport has not helped in accommodating more tourists; it is also a linking airport for the southeast countries to Australia and New Zealand.
